vVO2max, VDOT & Race Time Predictions
Caden uses grade-adjusted running telemetry and heart rate streams to calculate your velocity at VO2 max (vVO2max) and predict race finish times.
How Caden Filters Raw Data for Accurate Shape Scores
To prevent false predictions, Caden applies strict filtering rules to your Apple Health activity files:
First. Ignores short intervals, surge sessions, or activities with explicit workout type codes matching interval efforts. Second. Trims the initial ten minutes of cardiac lag, allowing your heart rate to reach true cardiovascular steady state. Third. Applies Grade Adjusted Speed algorithms to account for elevation gains and downhill segments. Fourth. Smooths historical data points using an Exponential Moving Average to reflect your true current race shape.
Race Finish Time Predictions
Based on your calculated VDOT and vVO2max score, Caden predicts your target finish times for four standard race distances:
5k Race Finish Time 10k Race Finish Time Half Marathon Finish Time (21.097 km) Full Marathon Finish Time (42.195 km)
Pace and Tempo Formatting
All pace and tempo metrics across Caden dashboard charts use exact minute and second decimal formatting (MM.SS), ensuring five minutes forty seconds is represented as 5.40 (rendered as 5:40) to prevent decimal minute confusion.
